How Has the Environmental Movement Influenced Policy and Legislation in the UK? — Multi-Camera Seminar Filming
This seminar at Birkbeck, University of London brought together leading figures from the UK environmental movement to examine how environmental campaigning has influenced government policy and legislation.
The event featured a 12-person panel, including Jonathon Porritt and Areeba Hamid, Co-Executive Director of Greenpeace UK, with a series of extended discussions exploring the history, successes and challenges of environmental campaigning in Britain.
I worked as part of the small production team responsible for filming the seminar, using a three-camera setup designed around the unusually large panel. One camera maintained coverage of the full group, another concentrated on the central speakers leading each discussion, while a third provided close-ups and more flexible coverage as the conversation moved around the panel.
With no PA system or livestream element, the production was designed specifically around creating a strong recorded programme. Multiple audio sources were recorded independently, giving us flexibility in post-production, while an ATEM video switcher was used during filming to create an initial live camera mix and provide a useful starting point for the edit.
The result was a polished long-form record of a substantial discussion involving a large number of contributors, produced with a relatively compact crew and technical setup.
