Tiverton & Exmouth Hustings — Remote Multicamera Livestream Production
For the 2024 General Election, I provided livestream production for two separate public hustings in Tiverton and Exmouth, giving local audiences the opportunity to watch parliamentary candidates answer questions and discuss issues affecting their constituencies.
Both events were produced using a remote live production workflow, with cameras and contributors on location while I managed the programme remotely through vMix. Camera feeds were sent back over the internet using Rivet, allowing me to switch between a main camera and additional mobile camera positions, add graphics and lower thirds, monitor the programme feed and manage the outgoing livestream.
The Exmouth event featured candidates from the Liberal Democrats, Labour, Green Party, Conservatives, Reform UK and an independent candidate, with journalist David Parsley of The i Paper hosting the discussion. Bespoke lower-third graphics were created using the colours of each political party, alongside countdown and closing graphics supplied for the broadcast.
The Exmouth programme was streamed simultaneously to YouTube and the Exmouth Journal Facebook page, while the Tiverton hustings was streamed through YouTube and shared with the Save Our Tivvy audience.
Using remote production reduced the amount of technical equipment and crew required at each venue while still delivering a professional multicamera broadcast. It also allowed the same centralised production workflow to be used across two different election events, with local camera operators concentrating on coverage while the switching, graphics and streaming were handled remotely.
