Plan Z — Independent Climate Documentary
Plan Z is an independent documentary following three scientists — a psychology professor, microbiologist and ecologist — who step beyond research and into civil disobedience over the climate crisis.
I co-directed the film with Louisa Jones, following the scientists as they grappled with the personal and professional consequences of taking direct action, including the possibility of arrest and the impact activism could have on their careers.
The project was produced independently on a shoestring budget, initially self-funded before receiving support through crowdfunding. As a small filmmaking team, we handled the production from filming through to post-production and distribution.
Plan Z went on to screen at film festivals and cinemas, including a run across 12 UK cinemas, before being made available online and for community, school, university and conference screenings.
The project demonstrated how a small independent production can grow from a self-funded documentary into a film reaching audiences through cinemas, festivals and grassroots screenings.
